After doing some research on sustainable fashion and the potential users of a sustainable fashion website, it was time to put my findings to use. By narrowing down who would be visiting the Sustainable FashHub and for what reasons, I had a grasp on what content would be included on the website along with where and how.
To recap, last week I discovered that users would mostly be visiting Sustainable FashHub to read-up on ethical fashion practices they can incorporate into their everyday lives. With this information I came up with the below main navigation:
- About
- Fast facts
- The Cause
- Buy Sustainable
- Upcycling
- Partners
- Shop
These links are the base of my sitemap and future website. I put this navigation together in an order that will hopefully tell a story to the readers. I start with About, Fast Facts, and The Cause, which all lead you to content which explains the meaning and importance behind the website. The remainder, Buy Sustainable, Upcycling, Partners, and Shop, are the actionable links for users. This is where they can read up on the latest and greatest in sustainable fashion.
Read on as I break each of these sections down a bit more. You can also see my completed sitemap of the Sustainable FashHub here.
About
Of course, as all websites, we have to start off with an About section. Here, I can introduce Sustainable FashHub along with the mission of the site. What is the mission behind the creation of this website and why should you support it?
Fast Facts
Moving on, the user comes upon the Fast Facts link. As I mentioned, most potential readers of the Sustainable FashHub voiced that they would be less attracted to the data behind the current issues in the fashion industry. Since I knew this data was still important to the mission of the website I wanted to make it present in a way that was easier to digest. Fast Facts offers shareable data visualizations. This is a perfect way to quickly convey important information to my millennial audience.
The Cause
Once we get past the introductions and motives behind Sustainable FashHub we hit the main content – blog articles. These will be the big attention grabbers on the site and The Cause is the first link in the navbar to offer up informational articles. This section will provide content that focuses on controversial issues in the textile and fashion industry along with how our planet is affected by such.
Buy Sustainable
During my research, it was presented to me that the majority of people would utilize a sustainable fashion website in order to be kept up-to-date on retailors who produce ethical clothing. Right now many people do not know where to begin on their sustainable journey. They may have the resources to read about the problems, but not many that give solutions. The Buy Sustainable link offers readers articles centered on ethical clothing designers, secondhand retailers, and affordable sustainable options.
Upcycling
This nav link gives users an alternative option to purchasing all new ethical clothing. Rather, it dives into DIY solutions and how to reinvent your current wardrobe. This comes in the form of blog articles as well as a video series of tutorials.
Partners
Many blogs include links to their partner sites. These partners write content for one another and share similar missions. This is something that I thought would be great for Sustainable FashHub. Not only would it give everyone some extra exposure, but also creates a community between different blogs and their readers.
Shop
Finally Sustainable FashHub offers a Shop link that combines a slew of products from an array of sustainable brands on a single page. While the Buy Sustainable link gives more information on the who, what, when, where, and why of sustainable brands, Shop lets you do your actual purchasing.
